New Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Dashboard

When I accessed my account with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure web console, I noticed a new tab that says “Dashboard (New)”.

I think this is a nice addition to the UI. Previously, when I wanted to see what’s going on with my account, I had to search and go there but this dashboard pretty much summarizes what I want to see.

As you can see in the image, I have 3 instances (ARM64) and I don’t get charged for them at all. I have this blog hosted on OCI at no charge. When I tried to use the free tier on AWS or Azure, they had ways to charge me though it wasn’t much but I like the fact that when OCI says it’s free, it’s really free. As you may be able to tell, this blog is quite snappy thanks to the ARM64 processor with 6GB memory. Again, I’m using it for free. 🙂

I cannot emphasize enough that Cloud service provides much more than what you would get from on-premise infrastructure for both big and small businesses. Graphs, cost analysis, load balancer, extra storage, auto scale up, auto scale down, you name it… Imagine you create these things from scratch on-premise… It would take so much time, energy, money… and you are not guaranteed to have it. The more I use Cloud, the more I realize this is amazing. It wouldn’t have been possible in pre Cloud era when everything was on-premise. We live in a very interesting time and as an engineer, and it’s very existing.
